Karen K. Homewood, 69, of Sumner, died Saturday, November 16, 2013, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye, Iowa with Rev. David R. Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Hawkeye Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at Becker-Milnes Funeral home in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding services at the church on Wednesday.
Karen Kay, daughter of George and Wilhelmina Ohman Kelly, was born July 13, 1944, at West Union, Iowa. She was baptized September 24, 1944 and confirmed March 30, 1958, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye. She attended Hawkeye Elementary School and graduated from North Fayette High School in 1965. On July 15, 1972, she was united in marriage with Jerry Homewood at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye. Mr. Homewood’s death occurred October 4, 1985. Karen worked at Meinert’s Creamery in Fredericksburg, and in the dietary department at both Prairie View Residential Care Center and Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner. She enjoyed crafts and embroidery, but most especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Karen is survived by one son, Jeff Homewood of Sumner; one daughter, Teresa (Robert) Boyle of Sumner; six grandchildren, Devin Homewood, Cameron Quigley, Dustin Boyle, Wesley Homewood, Ethan Boyle, and Madolyn Homewood; three brothers, George Kelly and Don (Becky) Kelly, both of Hawkeye, and Robert (Vicki) Kelly of Decorah; one sister, Linda Sigbornson of Omaha, Nebraska; and her special friend, Gary Lantzky of Sumner.
In addition to her husband, he was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Betty Kelly, Ruth Bartlett, and Mary Kelly, who died in infancy.
